E.Q: How did the bill of rights function in building the American Dream?
How did the persuasive techniques used in this document function in America's freedom?
Apply the techniques used previously to rewrite the Bill of Rights.

Starter:

Watch the America Gets a Constitution video. 
Why was the constitution and bill of rights a pivotal part in creating the idea of the American Dream?
What is it trying to persuade you to believe and why?

Activity: Rewrite an amendment using a persuasive writing technique.

1.  Discussion of Techniques
Take out your responses to the discussion questions from Friday:
As you read, identify key phrases that demonstrate the persuasive techniques you read about previously.  Use the scrible tool to highlight the techniques.

You must identify an example of the following:
appeal to authority
appeal to emotion
appeal to ethics
appeal to logic/reason

What language does he use to persuade his audience to his position?
Does he effectively or ineffectively persuade you? Explain.
What is the most convincing evidence to support his claims? Elaborate.
Evaluate how the text is structured.  What is significant about the ordering of ideas? 
We are going to share our idea through a chalk talk.
2.   Bill of Rights
In groups of 2-3you will be assigned an amendment from the Bill of Rights.
First, read through the amendment and identify the purpose and the audience.
Once you have identified those two items, rewrite the amendment using one persuasive technique you have learned.
Create a poster for the amendment and include the audience, purpose, and new language you have created.
  
3.  Present
You will present your poster with the class.
Consider what lead to these being our first 10 amendments.
What did Americans value during this period of time time and how did influence the American Dream?
Closure:
 Identify three techniques used in your peers posters.
Did they effectively persuade you?  Why or why not?
