Starter:

Editing Double Entry Notes

With your partner, find another pairing to compare your double entry notes to.
Share the quotes and reactions that you included in your notes. 
Analyze the quotes they selected to represent the main ideas. 
Make an edits that you deem necessary.

Use the Great Gatsby Vocab document to keep track of this novel's vocabulary.
We will go over the next 5 words today.

Activity:

1.  Chalk Talk

Individually and silently, respond to the questions on the appropriate paper.
Make sure that you are answering the questions fully.
(This should require more than a one word response.)
After you answer all the questions, take a second lap around the room to read through your classmates responses.

Questions
Evaluate whether or not you believe Jay Gatsby's story.
Essentially, is he who he says he is.
Characterize Mr. Wolfshiem.  Evaluate his role in relation to the plot.
Summarize the past of Gatsby and Daisy.
Predict what will happen between Gatsby and Daisy.
Justify whether or not you would arrange the tea party if you were in Nick's shoes.


2.  Great Gatsby Chapter Five 

As a class, we will read chapter five
As we are reading, identify examples of symbolism and ideas of American Dream.



Discussion Questions
Reason why Nick decides to invite Daisy over for tea.
Reason why Gatsby makes over Nick's house.
Characterize Gatsby throughout this chapter.
Describe the nature of his actions and evaluate his American Dream.

Closure:
Select one character from this chapter (Nick, Daisy, Gatsby), if you were in their shoes, what would you do in this situation?
