Starter:
In chapter three, we were finally introduced to Jay Gatsby.
Using the text, infer what his American Dream is.
Use as much detail as possible.
Vocabulary:
Use the Great Gatsby Vocab document to keep track of this novel's vocabulary.
We will go over the next 5 words today.
Activity:
1. Partner Read Chapter Four
With a partner you will be responsible for reading pages 68-75.
For every two pages that you read, identify a quote that exemplifies the main idea.
Make sure to copy the quote on one side, and on the other side, write your reaction or interpretation.
2. Discussion Questions
Evaluate whether or not you believe Jay Gatsby's story.
Essentially, is he who he says he is.
Characterize Mr. Wolfshiem. Evaluate his role in relation to the plot.
Summarize the past of Gatsby and Daisy.
Infer Gatsby's American Dream.
3. Venn Diagram
As you watch the film version, compare and contrast it to the original F. Scott Fitzgerald version.
Create a Venn Diagram with your observations.
Find at least 5 similarities and 5 differences.
Closure:
Predict what will happen between Gatsby and Daisy.
How does this relate to the American Dream that you described in the starter.
