Activity:
1. Small Groups Sharing
With your tables, share the motifs that you identified in the song.
Explain how you came to that conclusion and the overall meaning that motif creates.
Use this time to share lyrics and interpretations.
See what other interpretations you can discover by having more than one set of eyes.
2. Connotation vs. Denotation
Make a copy of the Connotation/ Denotation worksheet in your folder.
Individually, fill out the chart using the words and phrases prescribed to you.
We will share these as a class and discuss their meanings.
3. Song Practice
Take out the five songs that you used for homework last night.
Identify at least 3 examples of connotation and denotation in each.
You may create big charts using the poster paper, or you may fill it out in this chart in Google Docs.
Closure:
Using the learning target, self-evaluate on identifying motifs.
Would you be hitting a 1, 2, 3, or 4?
Explain why you are on that level.
