Structure Analysis of Civil Disobedience

E.Q: Identify the authors structure in Civil Disobedience.
Evaluate how that structure creates effectiveness in engaging/informing the audience.
Make connections between the main ideas of the text and today's government.

Starter:

Reflect on the complete work of Civil Disobedience.
Evaluate Thoreau's message and determine whether or not you agree with him.
Consider whether or not you would act out of civil disobedience 


Vocabulary:
Review the chart below to refresh the main plot points. 

Activity:

1. Illustrated Plot Diagram


You will be placed into groups and given a specific component of the plot.
With your group, you must identify all events that fall within that component.
Then, with your group you will create a poster that has the following:

Identification of component on physical plot diagram.
Listing of all events for assigned portion.
At least 3 important quotes from section.
Image to support findings.

2.  Presentations

As a group, share your poster to the class.
Before you present, decide who will present each part.
Every member of the group should speak during the presentation.
Don't leave any information out.

3.  Socratic Seminar Prep

TOPIC:

Evaluate today's government.
If you could change anything about it, in order to make it better for the people, what would you change?
Explain your rationale.
Find facts that would support your claim.
Consider whether the majority or minority would support this change.

Make sure that you are finding evidence that will back up your claim.
Do your research.
Take Cornell Notes!

Consider what rhetorical devices you can use to make people support you.

Closure:
Explain how your part of the story engaged/informed the audience.

Homework
Finish prep for Socratic Seminar.
