End of Civil Disobedience

E.Q: Identify the authors structure in Civil Disobedience.
Evaluate how that structure creates effectiveness in engaging/informing the audience.

Starter:

Based on the individual Scrible summaries you created yesterday, create one comprehensive summary for pages 12-15.

We will share these as a class to discuss this section of Civil Disobedience.

Discussion Questions to Consider

Justify why Thoreau is upset about his neighbor playing taxes.
Rationalize Thoreau's logic in not paying the taxes.
Interpret "But if I put my head deliberately into the fire, there is no appeal to fire or to the Maker of fire, and I have only myself to blame" (16).
Explain Thoreau's opinion on the Constitution and government at the end of the text.
Analyze and explain Thoreau's opinion of government workers.
Thoreau's question: Critique: Is a democracy, such as we know it, the last improvement possible in government?

2.  Illustrated Plot Diagram


You will be placed into groups and given a specific component of the plot.
With your group, you must identify all events that fall within that component.
Then, with your group you will create a poster that has the following:

Identification of component on physical plot diagram.
Listing of all events for assigned portion.
At least 3 important quotes from section.
Image to support findings.

3.  Presentations
(Time Permitting)

Share your poster to the class.
Don't leave any information out.

Closure:
Explain how your part of the story engaged/informed audience.
